Case of beating up police officers: CPM justifies SFI leader
Thiruvananathapuram: In the incident of beating up traffic police officers on duty at Palayam, CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan has come out with justifications. Muhammad Nazeem, who has been named the key accused in the case, is not guilty. The police officials who are BJP members deliberately named Nazeem as accused, he said.
A controversy had erupted after Nazeem, who was suspected to be absconding, had appeared at a public function along with state ministers. The visuals of the function held at University college showed Nazeem attending the function attended by ministers AK Balan and KT Jaleel.
Nazeem had been there on the college premises until the function ended. The function had taken place literally meters away from the Cantonment police station where the case had been registered.
On December 12, a group including Nazeem, had beaten up the traffic police officers on duty at Palayam, Sarath and Vinayachandran, for questioning the violation of traffic signal. The police officers had undergone treatment at general hospital here. After the incident made headlines, case was registered against six on the basis of CCTV visuals. Four of the six accused had surrendered at police station.
According to police, two accused, including the key accused Nazeen who is the Thiruvananthapuram University College SFI Union Secretary are still absconding.
Parents of the police officer who was beaten up had submitted petitions to Chief Minister and DGP for nabbing Nazeem.
