Cardiac surgery dept at Sree Chitra Tirunal medical college closed due to Covid
Thiruvananthapuram: The cardiac surgery department at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institue for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) has been temporarily closed after the staff tested positive for COVID-19.
At first, seven patients admitted here for surgery were turned COVID positive. Following this, COVID test was conducted for the staff and two among them tested positive.
Meanwhile, the government will impose strict restrictions across the state in view of the surge in COVID cases. 24-hour checking will be carried out on state boundaries.
Those who are heading to Kerala must obtain COVID negative certificate of RT-PCR test or documents of receiving two doses of vaccine.
The health department examined that the test positivity rate is likely to go up in the coming days. It is expected that around 20,000 new cases will be reported on Monday.
The health department is worried about the rise in the number of COVID-19 patients under treatment.
ICU facilities are almost occupied in Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Kasaragod districts where COVID cases are increasing at an alarming rate. At present, over 60 percent of ICUs across the state are being used for COVID patients. If the number of cases goes up, the situation will turn out of control.
