Thalassery: A car accident at Mukkali near Vadakara on Monday morning killed a priest and injured three others.
Fr Manoj Paul Ottaplackal (33), the vice-rector of Thalassery Minor Seminary is the deceased. The accident happened around 3:45 am when the car on which the priests were travelling from Pala to Thalassery collided with a tanker lorry on the national highway.
Fr George Karottu, one of the injured priests, was taken to a private hospital in Vadakara, while Fr John Mundolikal and Fr Joseph Pandaraparampil were admitted to Baby Memorial Hospital in Kannur. The car involved in the accident suffered severe damage.
Fr. Manoj Ottaplakal was ordained as a priest in 2011, and was known for his talents as a skilled painter. His artworks have been exhibited in numerous locations. His parents are Paulose and Thresyamma.
The public will have an opportunity to pay their respects to Fr. Manoj at Thalassery Cathedral Church, where his body will be kept for viewing from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday. Additionally, public viewing will take place at Ottaplackal House at Maruthavu in Edoor from 10 pm to 10 am on Tuesday, followed by viewing at St. Mary's Forane Church, Edoor, at 2:30 pm. The cremation will be held at 3 pm.
