Kozhikode: MP K Muraleedharan said he cannot accept the government stand that COVID will spread if holy offering from temple is distributed but not while queuing up to buy liquor. The devotees should be allowed to pray peacefully, he demanded in a press meet here.

The worship centres were opened as directed by the Centre. When the temples were opened, BJP asked not to open. Some people pretend they are supposed to take care of the temples and devotees. But nobody is asked to take care of the devotees. They can have darshan at temples following health protocols, Muraleedharan added.

The COVID death could have been reduced if 14 days of institutional quarantine and 14 days of home quarantine were implemented. We had warned in this regard, but nobody listened to it. Though the government claimed to have 2 lakh beds, not everyone is being sent to home-quarantine. Even fluid test is not performed accurately. Press conference was stopped to avoid questions on this and death reports also are limited, Muraleedharan added.

The LDF should reach a consensus regarding the Athirappilly matter. CPI stated that they would not allow to continue with the project. Binoy Viswam had pointed it out. Let them reach a consensus and then we would convey our opinion. There is no point in commenting on a project which the ruling front has not reached consensus, he stated.
