Cabinet rank to Advocate General Sudhakar Prasad
Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday morning has decided to give cabinet rank to Advocate General C.P. Sudhakar Prasad. With this, the number of non- ministerial cabinet members in the state has risen to 5.
The action was taken based on the recommendation from law department. Although, such a recommendation was given two months ago, it was dropped owing to opposition from various quarters.
As of now, V.S. Achuthanandan (Administrative Reforms Commission chairman), R. Balakrishna Pillai (Forward community’s welfare cooperation chairman), K Rajan (Chief Whip of the government), A Sambath (Government’s representative in Delhi) are the only ones given cabinet ranks.
Being the attorney general of the state, Sudhakar Prasad already enjoys special powers.
The cabinet meeting also approved the decision to bring down the traffic violation penalty in the state. The government will be giving the kin of Afeel, who died tragically after a hammer fell on his head at a sports meet, a sum of Rs 10 lakhs as compensation, as per the decision taken at the cabinet meeting.
