Cabinet decides to acquire land for Wayanad medical college
Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet on Wednesday decided to acquire 50 acres of land in Chelad estate according to certain conditions to construct a medical college in in Wayanad district, Health Minister K. K. Shailaja said.
Lack of a government medical college is creating a lot of problems for the people. Establishing such a facility will be relief to the common man. Hence the government is planning to acquire the land and start construction, the minister added.
The government had approved Rs 625 crore through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) to arrange the facilities necessary for the medical college. The amount has been granted to build a medical college with modern facilities along with academic and accommodation blocks, she added.
The government has also designated INCAL Ltd as the special surplus vehicle to assist in the medical college establishment activities through KIIFB.
