Bypolls to Chavara, Kuttanad assembly seats to be held in November

It has been decided to conduct bypolls to 65 assembly constituencies in the country along with Bihar assembly election in November.

New Delhi: The Election Commission stated that by-election to Chavara and Kuttanad assembly constituencies will be held in November. The bypolls in Kerala will take place along with Bihar assembly polls. The decision in this regard was taken during the meeting of the Election Commission.

It has been decided to conduct bypolls to 65 assembly constituencies in the country along with Bihar assembly election in November. The Commission made it clear that date of election will be informed later. The precautions to be taken during the election amid COVID crisis will be decided after discussing with political parties in the coming days.



Kuttanad assembly seat is remaining vacant following the death of MLA Thomas Chandy and Chavara seat was vacant after MLA Vijayan Pillai's death. The COVID crisis intensified when the parties started preparations for the bypolls including candidate selection. With this, the Election Commission had earlier hinted that bypolls are unlikely to take place.
