Bypolls: Congress’ list of probable candidates ready; dispute in Konni, Vattiyoorkavu
Thiruvananthapuram: The election committee meeting of KPCC convened to select candidates for the ensuing bypolls to five constituencies concluded here on Wednesday.
Though the meting reached a consensus regarding the candidates for Ernakulam and Aroor constituencies, disputes continued regarding the candidates for Konni and Vattiyoorkavu constituencies. IUML had named M.C Kamarudheen as the UDF candidate for Manjeswaram.
At Ernakulam, T.J. Vinod is likely to be the candidate while Youth Congress assembly constituency president S.Rajesh is likely to be the candidate in Aroor. A notable exception is K.V. Thomas in Ernakulam whose name has not been considered.
The meeting could not decide the candidates for Konni and Vattiyoorkavu constituencies. In Konni, the DCC is against Robin Peter, the candidate nominated by Adoor Prakash. Meanwhile in Vattiyoorkavu, the regional leadership is against N. Peethambara Kurup.
However, K. Muraleedharan MP is firmly behind Peethambara Kurup. “The present opposition against the candidature of Peethambara Kurup need not be taken seriously. There was stronger opposition when I contested from there. I know the atmosphere in Vattiyoorkavu. I have conveyed my opinion and that of others to the KPCC president,” said Muraleedharan.
Despite the opposition from DCC, Adoor Prakash’s direction to name Robin Peter as the Konni candidate is likely to be approved by KPCC. The list of probable candidates for the four constituencies will be sent to the Congress high command which will officially announce the candidates on Friday or Saturday.
