Thiruvananthapuram: LDF, in all probability, will give the Rajya Sabha bypoll seat to Kerala Congress (M). A final decision will be taken at the LDF meeting, LDF convener A Vijayaraghavan said here on Sunday.

The election was necessitated following the resignation of KC(M) chairman Jose K Mani following the joining of his party in LDF.

When LJD joined LDF, they had resigned from the Rajya Sabha. The party contested to the Rajya Sabha again in a bypoll, for the LDF.

Jose contested to the Rajya Sabha in June 2018 as a UDF candidate after resigning from the Lok Sabha seat which he secured for the UDF for a margin of 120,599 votes in 2014. He resigned from Rajya Sabha in January 2021.

The newly elected member will have tenure till July 2024.

Kerala Congress (M) will decide the candidate. Jose had lost the Assembly election from Pala to Mani C Kappan.

Earlier today, the Election Commission of India declared that the bypolls to one Rajya Sabha seat each from Kerala and West Bengal will be held on November 29.

The notification would be issued on November 9 and the poll will be held on November 29, the EC said in a statement.

The counting of votes, as per established practice, will be held one hour after the voting concludes on November 29.
