Tirur: The family of the businessman, whose body was recovered from the Attappady ghat road, claimed that the cash in his son’s bank account had been frequently withdrawn since the day he went missing. Hotel owner Siddique’s son Shaheed informed the police that his father had used his bank account for hotel dealings and the entire deposit in this account was withdrawn from the ATM facilities at different locations.

The money had also been transferred via a UPI application in Siddique’s phone, said Shaheed.

The cash was first withdrawn from an ATM facility in Kozhikode on May 18. Later, the money was taken from the ATM counters in Perinthalmanna and Angadippuram regions on the following day. Through UPI, a certain amount had been transferred to an account of an Angadipuram native, said Shaheed. According to him, nearly Rs 2 lakh has been lost from this account.

The mobile phone used by Siddique was unresponsive from Thursday. His family lodged a missing complaint to police when the staff of the hotel rang up Shaheed for money to purchase groceries.

Siddique’s lifeless body was recovered from a bag which was found beneath the 9th hairpin curve on Attappady ghat road. The accused have allegedly killed Siddique from a hotel in Eranhipalam, chopped his body into pieces and later disposed of into the gorge near the ghat road. The motive behind the crime is unknown. Accused Shibili, Farhana and Ashik are currently under police custody.
