Bus owner threatens cop over cancellation of fitness certificate
A tourist bus owner threatened a police officer following a vehicle inspection. Joshy, owner of ‘Josh Travels’ based in Thodupuzha threatened Ajeesh Kumar, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector (AMVI), Kottarakkara.
During a vehicle check as part of operation Thunder, a series of vehicle inspections organised by the motor vehicles department, it was found that speed governor on one of the buses owned by Joshy was detached. Following this, the AMVI suspended the vehicle’s fitness certificate.
This enraged Joshy, who called up the AMVI over phone. The bus owner threatened to make the police officer lose his job. Joshy also said he would take care of Ajeesh once the latter comes out of office after duty.
“What right do you have to cancel the Certificate of Fitness (COF) of my vehicle which was on a trip?” the bus owner questioned the police officer during the 15-minute-long phone call.
Joshy also threatened to take Ajeesh to the court if he does not reinstate the vehicle’s fitness certificate. Following the threat, Ajeesh Kumar filed a complaint with Kottarakkara police against Joshy and Libin.
Following stunts by tourist buses at two schools in Kollam, the motor vehicles department has been conducting intense vehicle checks across the state. The initiative titled operation Thunder has invited sharp criticism from bus owners and employees.
