Buried foetus exhumed in Kottayam, police await related reports

Kottayam: The probe team unravelling the mystery behind the buried foetus in Vaikom here exhumed the body on Friday. The exhumation happened around 11 am in the presence of forensic officials and the tehsildar.

Police on the other day was informed about the burial of the foetus. Initial reports said that it was a newborn baby. But later it come out that it was foetus. The police came to know about the incident after an ASHA worker intimated the matter.

According to reports, foetus was buried by a migrant woman Aisha (20) from West Bengal and her partner Najbul Shaik. The couple was taken into police custody on the other day itself. The exhumation comes after the completion of the required formalities.

Locals claimed that Aisha from last month had been staying with migrants engaged in the scrap business. The group has been staying in a rented house in the locality and the house owner woman on the other day received a call from Aisha’s husband Najbul Shaik. He informed the house owner that Aisha had a stomach ache and had been bleeding. When the house owner reached the place she came to know that foetus came out. Shaik allegedly buried the foetus nearby plot after packing it on a plastic cover.

Meanwhile, police have been waiting for the allied reports related to the exhumation to get more clarity on the incident. However, police questioned the couple. According to the versions given by Aisha herself and Shaik, they were unaware that she was pregnant. It is learnt that foetus came out as spontaneous abortion (the loss of pregnancy naturally).
