Building Rules amended for Munnar should be implemented state-wide: HC
Kochi: The high court has directed that Building Rules amended for Munnar should be implemented in the entire state. The government informed the court that the process is under progress. The court also ordered for the immediate implementation of the conditions 8 and 9 in the amendments made for Munnar.
The high court issued the direction while considering a petition filed by two resort owners in Munnar and Wayanad showing that the revenue department does not grant license even after panchayat granted the permit. The government informed the court that the constructions were completed violating the conditions in the title deed.
The government had issued an order on August 22 to regularize the buildings in Munnar and to implement the amendments made to the Building Rules. The high court has directed to immediately implement the conditions 8 and 9 in the Munnar order which stops illegal constructions violating title deed conditions in eco-sensitive zones.
With this, a land can be used for only those purposes mentioned in the title deed. The court directed the local bodies to stop the illegal constructions for commercial purposes. The court has also added the Departments of Industry and Tourism as parties in the case.
