Buffer zone: Kerala govt to submit first map to SC; training for officials still pending

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government needs to submit the report based on the first map of the Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) along with survey numbers of affected regions to Supreme Court and procedures are underway.

Government had released three maps. The report based on the map readied by Kerala State Remote Sensing and Environment Centre (KSREC) is the one that needs to be submitted.

Meanwhile, the complaints and concerns over the three maps are not yet cleared. Officials from the level of beat officer to range officer need to be given training for this. However, even the training for the pre requisite field visit is yet to be completed in some districts.

Similarly, poor connectivity has been hindering the data recording in the mobile app and geotagging.

On one hand the forest department and local self-government department are involved in mutual blame game while on the other, contentions of public remain unresolved. 20,878 complaints have been settled.
