BSNL offices and quarters to be rented out
Thiruvananthapuram: With most number of employees opting for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS), the number of staff in BSNL have come down. And with the reduced number, BSNL plans to rent out the buildings. And people from outside could take for rent the staff quarters.
As many as 4600 BSNL staff opted for VRS in the state and 78,569 people from across the nation. With the functioning of modern technology NGN Exchange, only limited space is needed. The BSNL offices and Exchanges have plenty of vacant space. BSNL said these empty spaces could be used for welfare activities of the common man and for nation’s rebuilding activities.
The decision to let out the space was taken considering BSNL liabilities. BSNL offices in all panchayats from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod coming under the Kerala circle and also in city, town, municipal and corporation limits are situated in prime locations. Out of this, 100 buildings are planned to be rented out.
The rent would be the minimum considering the charges in that respective place. In many places, an agreement has been reached for letting it out. The Vigilance department will take for rent the Thiruvananthapuram Manakkad administrative building. A deal has been inked to rent the Kochi building too by a private bank.
BSNL’s official website has posted the advertisement. Priority would be given to government departments, offices working with government help, cooperative banks, major private companies, etc. The contact numbers in the respective districts too have been published in the website.
The staff quarters would be given for rent to government employees who can give advance rent, retired staff, those who retired from BSNL, relatives of BSNL employees and others. As many as 150 quarters including officers quarters are lying vacant with all facilities.
