Kochi: The Kochi Corporation has initiated action to cancel the biomining contract signed with Zonta Infratech following the fire incident at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant.
A show cause notice will be issued to the company for which they will have to reply within 10 days. Following this, the Corporation would evaluate the company's performance, and a detailed report would be submitted at the council meeting.
The final decision on terminating the contract with Zonta Infratech will be taken in this meeting. It is said that the civic body will initiate its action against the biomining firm within this month after a special council meeting.
Additional Chief Secretary Sarada G Muraleedharan has given a letter to Kochi Corporation Secretary seeking immediate action in this regard. The Corporation had earlier notified the government of the violations by Zonta.
Though 30 per cent of mining has been completed, the legal department has observed that the company has not so far removed the garbage mined from the spot. Additionally, there is also a breach in the subcontract.
The government has directed the civic body to take action after verifying the 9-11 terms mentioned in the contract.
