Kochi: The municipal corporation is responsible in case a fire breaks out in Brahmapuram, says in a contract signed between Star Consultancy and Kochi Corporation regarding waste management in the plant.

A copy of the contract, leaked eight days after a disastrous fire broke out in Brahmapuram, clearly implies that the Corporation is liable for sudden fire or flooding in the plant.

The contractor is only liable for damages sustained if an accident occurs in the building housing treatment plant. However, the contractor is liable to pay compensation if any employee is hurt in an accident.

However, the latest fire broke out in the dumping yard around the plant building. As a result, the Corporation would be liable to answer to the fire.
