Kattakada: In a development to the alleged murder of a Class 10 boy in Poovachal, the accused Priyaranjan (42) has been sent to police custody for further investigation. Although the police had demanded custody for seven days, the Kattakada Court permitted only six days' custody.
As per reports, the police is yet to gain clarity over the hiding places of the accused in Tamil Nadu, his accomplices and his purchase of a new SIM card.
The incident pertaining to the case took place at around 5.30 pm on August 30. It was alleged that Priyaranjan had deliberately knocked down Adi Shekar, son of Arun Kumar and Sheeba, using his car while the latter was riding a bicycle. Following the incident, Priyaranjan went into hiding and was later arrested in Tamil Nadu.
Initially, the incident was labelled a hit-and-run case. However, the child’s family alleged that the accident was deliberate and lodged a complaint with the police. Following this, police verified CCTV footage of the area and concluded that Priyaranjan may have hit the boy deliberately.
Adi Shekar and Priyaranjan had earlier entered into a verbal spat after the boy accused the man of urinating in front of a temple wall. It is alleged that humiliation over the incident could have led to the murder.
