Both Jose, Joseph factions gain better after switching political front

Jose K Mani faction, which joined LDF, could gain better consideration than CPI in Kottayam district. Joseph faction also is benefitted in UDF as they need not share the available seats with the opposing faction.

Thiruvananthapuram: When the candidate selection is almost complete for the upcoming local body polls, the switching of political front will not seriously affect Jose K Mani and P J Joseph factions of Kerala Congress, it is assumed. LDF and UDF gave decent consideration for both factions. Jose K Mani faction, which joined LDF, could gain better consideration than CPI in Kottayam district. Joseph faction also is benefitted in UDF as they need not share the available seats with the opposing faction.

In Kottayam district panchayat, CPM and Jose faction will contest in 9 seats each while CPI will face the election in 4 seats. Though there was an attempt to reduce the number of seats allotted to CPI, state secretary Kanam Rajendran intervened to stop the move. Joseph faction will also contest in 9 seats in the district and Congress in 13 seats.

Pala, being the stronghold of Kerala Congress, CPM gave majority of the seats to Jose faction. CPM put forward the suggestion that 17 seats for Jose faction, 6 for CPM and 2 for CPI. However, CPI did not agree with this and is about to contest the polls alone. Last time, CPI had contested in 7 seats. However, Jose faction does not have upper hand in other municipalities.

In Kottayam municipality, CPM is likely to take 33 seats, CPI 8 seats and Jose faction 7 seats. In Ettumanoor, 20 seats are for CPM, 8 for Jose faction, and 6 for CPI. Jose faction will get only one seat each in Vaikom and Erattupetta municipalities. Majority of the seats were shared between CPM and CPI. CPM will take 16 seats in Changanassery and 4 seats will be given to Jose faction.

In Alappuzha district panchayat, CPM will contest in 15 seats, CPI in 5 seats and Jose faction in one seat. Jose faction got 3 seats in Chengannur while CPI got 5 seats. Seats in Ernakulam district panchayat was divided as 17 seats for CPM, 5 for CPI and 2 for Jose faction. In UDF, Congress will contest in 21 seats, Joseph faction in 2 seats.

In LDF, CPM will take 10 seats, CPI 3 seats, Jose faction 2 seats in Pathanamthitta district panchayat. The seats are shared as 14 seats for Congress and 2 seats for Joseph faction. In Idukki district panchayat, CPM is contesting in 7 seats, CPI in 5 seats and Jose faction in 4 seats. Congress contests in 11 seats and Joseph faction in 5 seats in Idukki.
