Bomb blast in Kannur: Oppn leader, BJP chief, Mayor slam CPM

Opposition leader VD Satheesan and BJP chief K Surendran

Kannur: Many political leaders have slammed CPM over the bomb blast which claimed one life in Kannur. Opposition leader VD Satheesan raised a sharp criticism against CPM by linking the party-men to the incident.

"The incident proves goonda menace in the state in which police department is controlled by CPM. Pinpointing about CPM’s involvement in cases pertaining to bomb-making and violence in Kannur," said Satheesan.

Satheesan put forth a question whether CM who is also the home minister has “anything to say now”.

Kannur Mayor TO Mohanan alleged that both the deceased and the attackers are from CPM. He claimed that even before the attack, the miscreants trained themselves to use it. According to the mayor, though the attack is not politically motivated, the bomb came from the CPM’s party villages. Observing this, he has urged the police to raid such places to seize the bombs and other weapons.

Meanwhile, BJP state chief K Surendran alleged that rivalry between CPM factions resulted in the bomb attack. He also slammed CM Pinarayi Vijayan and said that the CM is criticising Uttar Pradesh to divert attention from the incident that happened in his native place.

Earlier today, four youth were arrested over the case. The witnesses alleged that the blast was an extension of the clashes which broke out on the previous day of marriage. It is reported that deceased Jishnu was part of the team who was behind the clash.

Mathrubhumi News had aired the visuals of the attack on Sunday. The visuals captured the bomb blast and fistfight among the youth during a music band programme. Police took the suspects into custody after examining these visuals and CCTV footage collected from the locality. The person who allegedly threw the bomb is still absconding from the police.
