Body of former panchayat president who jumped into backwaters recovered

Vyppin: The body of CPM leader and former panchayat president V K Krishnan (74) who had jumped into the backwaters from a boat near Kochi after writing a suicide note against the CPM was traced on Friday morning. The body was recovered from the Kannamali coast.

Former president of Elamkunnapuzha panchayat VK Krishnan jumped from a boat, that was travelling from Vypin to Fort Kochi, into the backwaters around 7 30 pm on Tuesday. He handed over his suicide note to a commuter in the boat.

Krishnan had lost his post after BJP supported the no-confidence motion put forward by the Congress on May 31. However, he stated in the letter that it is not the reason for the suicide.

He alleged in the letter that the Elamkunnapuzha local committee tried to oust him from the post. He added that he has made a heap of mistakes.

Krishnan is currently the member of the local committee. He had participated in local committee meet on Monday and the panchayat committee on Tuesday.

He was also the panchayat member during 2005 – 2010. He was in the forefront of the protest by VS faction when factionalism was in its zenith in the party.
