Kozhikode: Seven members of the opposition parties were taken into custody by the Kerala Police on Sunday for attempting to wave black flag at chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Four Youth Congress members, two Kerala Students Union workers and a Yuva Morcha leader were taken into custody in three different incidents in Nadakkavu and West Hill in the city.

Security for the CM had tightened ahead of his two-day visit to Kozhikode. However, the protesters managed to breach the police shield and wave black flag at several places.

The protests are against imposing a Rs 2 social security cess on fuel prices.

Meanwhile, Congress state president K Sudhakaran said that the party would move legally against preventive detention to evade protests. He said the public cannot venture out if there is an event to be attended by the chief minister in the area.
