Black fever reported in Kollam: Preventive measures in place
Anchal: Health Department has initiated preventive measures to control black fever (Leishmaniasis) after a case was reported at Villumala tribal colony here. The department is carrying out preventive measures effectively since last two days.
Over 200 people reached the medical camp held at Villumala Anganwadi. No black fever case was confirmed in any of them.
Meanwhile, one person suffering from stomach ache is under observation in the camp.
A pesticide that contains a special mixture of chemicals is being used by the department to kill the sandflies that spread black fever.
District veterinary medical group has collected blood samples from domestic animals in the region.
Awareness programmes are also in full swing here. Pamphlets and notices on black fever are being circulated.
It is learnt that the disease will not spread from a person to another. The department is working on to avoid panic among the people.
Meanwhile, Shibu who is under treatment for black fever at Thiruvananthapuram Medical college, is out of critical condition now. Hospital authorities informed that he is under observation as he needs medical care.
It is reported that in the wake of black fever, central medical team will visit the area on Saturday. Ayurveda communicable diseases prevention cell authority led by Dr Deppa L, Dr Hareesh Kumar and Dr Maneesh Kumar visited the houses to review the situation.
District Medical office representatives Dr Lakshmi and Dr Julie also carried out medical inspections in the area.
