BJP to protest seeking amenities for Sabarimala pilgrims
Kottayam: The BJP will organise more protests seeking basic amenities for Sabarimala pilgrims, said state president P S Sreedharan Pillai. As a first step, the BJP will organise a dharna at Pathanamthitta from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday.
“Even facilities to take rest is not provided for the pilgrims. There was drinking water shortage at Sannidhanam, Pampa and Erumely. There were no streetlights. All the facilities have been reserved for the 7,000 police officers deployed there,” he said.
“Matters have taken a turn for the worse. We have brought them to the central governments notice. The protests have been peaceful today and will continue,” Sreedharan said.
K Surendran’s arrest was against the law. As Surendran had not attacked the police, there was no need to take him under preventive custody. The public should come forward against the state government’s illegal actions, Pillai said and added that the BJP will move petition against police to the human rights commission.
