Kozhikode: Ruling out all rumours associated with her being expelled from the National Executive of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Sabha MP Maneka Gandhi has told Mathrubhumi.com that such allegations over it are a drama as there is nothing unusual in it.
"I have been honest throughout my career and there is no issue with the leadership. I am not just the one member, who has been expelled from the National Executive of BJP; 80 members have been removed. I am in it for the last thirty years and obviously there should be a change. Such moves by the party are to provide opportunities to newcomers. I don't find anything unusual in it; in fact it is good for the party," said Maneka.
On Thursday Lok Sabha MPs Maneka Gandhi and her son Varun Gandhi were terminated from the National Executive while Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Jyotiraditya Scindia were inducted into the 80-member committee.
It was just minutes after Varun Gandhi tweeted a video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, in which cars of Union Minister of State Ajay Kumar Mishra's convoy mowing down farmers, who were staging a protest against the farm laws of the central government.
Being a BJP MP, his criticism of Yogi Adithyanath government irked BJP leadership as he tweeted "...Protestors cannot be silenced through murder. There has to be accountability for the innocent blood of farmers that has been spilled and justice must be delivered before a message of arrogance and cruelty enters the minds of every farmer..."
Soon after this BJP President JP Nadda came up with the new National Executive Committee with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi as members and excluded critics such as Subramanian Swamy, Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi. Other senior leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal found a place in the new committee, which will meet on November 7.
