Thiruvananthapuram: Confirming the unrest within BJP, Krishnadas and Sobha Surendran factions have dismissed K Surendran’s claim on BJP’s gain in the local body polls. According to reports, Sobha Surendran has informed the central leadership that the BJP Kerala committee has failed to win the expected seats in the local body polls.

In the 2015 local body polls, BJP obtained power in 1321 wards and this time it is 1601. Though BJP has improved its tally, they failed to hit the target.

Meanwhile, BJP-RSS examined that the rival parties consolidated the minority votes against BJP and the results in Thiruvananthapuram corporation confirmed this fact.

At the same time, BJP has entered as the major opposition in most of the wards in this polls. They also turned as the single largest party by winning majority votes in some wards. But BJP will not support any front to obtain power in any panchayat.

However, BJP state leadership has directed the district committees that BJP can seek the support of other fronts to obtain power in the local bodies if necessary. The committee also directed to issue whip to elected BJP members.

BJP has aimed to win power in over 6000 wards and 100 panchayats. But BJP neither reached this target nor made an impressive movement in the polls.

Senior BJP leader O Rajagopal has also stated that BJP needs to grow up more in Kerala.

Meanwhile, BJP national president JP Nadda expressed satisfaction over BJP’s performance in the local body polls. According to reports, Nadda appreciated the state leadership for the results.
