BJP concerned, confused over Vellappally Natesan’s statement supporting LDF?
Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP is confused and concerned over Vellappally Natesan’s statement that LDF candidate Mani C Kappan has a better chance of victory in the Pala bypoll. The BJP is concerned that the statement of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) general secretary will change the mind of BDJS headed by Vellappally’s son Thushar.
The BJP also doubts if the SNDP leader’s statement was a gesture of thanks to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who intervened to save Thushar Vellappally, who is also the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor, when he was arrested in a cheque fraud case in UAE.
Both the BJP and NDA are giving more importance to the bypolls in Vattiyoorkavu and Manjeshwaram than Pala. The SNDP leader’s comment comes at a time when the BJP is hoping to increase their vote share in Pala.
Some BJP leaders are of the opinion that Vellappally’s statements are as the SNDP general secretary and it will not affect BDJS. A similar view is aired by BDJS leaders as well. However, BJP is concerned if the statements regarding Pala will affect the voters in Vattiyoorkavu and Manjeshwaram.
Though BDJS is not an organisation that comes under the umbrella of SNDP Yogam, Vellappally Natesan had intervened to secure a seat for Thushar firstly in Thrissur and then in Wayanad following the announcement of Rahul Gandhi’s candidature.
In this context, Vellappally’s statement may influence Thushar’s stance. BJP doubts if BDJS is swing to the Left side following Pinarayi Vijayan’s intervention to save Thushar from a cheque case in UAE.
