Thiruvananthapuram: Thampanoor police on Sunday arrested Kanjiramkulam native Anju for allegedly selling her newborn baby. Anju had given birth at Thaikkad hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on April 7 before selling the baby through a middleman who was arrested earlier.

Anju was found hiding in a house in Marayamuttom, based on information provided by a friend. It is reported that the middleman negotiated the price of the baby. The police have stated that they will take strict legal action against those involved in the case.

The police say the sale took place on 10. The buyers, natives of Karamana, paid Rs 3 lakh for the baby. They claimed that a friend had given the child to them as they were childless. Acting on information received by the Special Branch, the police recovered the baby from the family. Currently, the baby is in the care of the Child Welfare Committee.
