Bid to take selfie atop goods train turns tragic; student grievously injured
Palakkad: A college student sustained grievous injuries while trying to take a selfie after climbing on top of a goods wagon station at the goods yard near Palakkad Junction railway station.
The injured was identified as Adarsh (20), son of Shivadasan of Konnencherry in Vadakkencherry. A student of a private college in Pambadi, Adarsh was admitted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place around 3 pm on Friday. Adarsh reached the railway station along with his friend Jebrin of Konnencherry on a two wheeler. They parked the bike and reached the goods shed. Adarsh then climbed atop the goods wagon stationary on track number 11.
While trying to take a selfie on top on top of the wagon, Adarsh came in contact with the high tension electric line and suffered electric shock. Adarsh was thrown off the wagon onto the concrete platform nearby. Under the impact, Adarsh sustained severe head injuries. He also sustained injuries to his chest and left leg from the electric shock.
Hearing the cries of Jebrin, Railway Police (RPF) officials and passengers came to the spot. Adarsh was administered first aid before being rushed to the District Government Hospital. He was later shifted to Thrissur medical college for advanced treatment.
RPF officials said they will take action against the two students for trespassing into the goods yard. Jebrin has been directed to appear before the RPF officials on Saturday.
