Kollam: The Kerala Latin Catholic Church diocese in the district has criticised the central and state governments in the pastoral letter that was read out in the churches on Sunday. The governments have been trying to destroy the fishing sector and sell it to the corporates, criticised the pastoral letter.
EMCC has withdrawn the contract following strong protest. The government has already completed the legislation to help the corporates in fishing sector. Attempts are being carried out to destroy the fishing sector in the name of tourism and development. We should jointly oppose such policies and attempts from the part of the government, pointed out the pastoral letter.
It also criticised the state government for including the housing project for fishermen under Life Mission project and restricted the additional benefits for them. The government has been cooperating with the policies and laws which harm the fishermen who are known as Kerala’s army.
The central government is also betraying the fishermen by granting approval for mining in sea under ‘Blue Economy’ project.
The pastoral letter pointed out that we should recognise and counter the attempts to destruct the fishermen.
