BEVCO targets Onam, seeks extension of time for liquor sale


The government is considering the request. As Thiruvonam falls on August 31, a decision in this regard will be taken soon.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) has urged the government to extend the sales time in view of Onam.

BEVCO has recommended extending the sales time by two hours. At present, BEVCO outlets are open from 9 am to 5 pm. BEVCO is seeking to extend this to 7 pm.

The recommendation has been put forward in view of the increase in sales for Onam. Usually, BEVCO records the highest sales during Onam season. Moreover, as liquor sale concludes by 5 pm, customers who return home after office at 5 pm are unable to buy alcohol, BEVCO pointed out.

The government is considering the request. As Thiruvonam falls on August 31, a decision in this regard will be taken soon. The officials also said that liquor sales have taken a serious hit when compared to last year.
