Benny Behanan announces resignation; MM Hassan to be new UDF convenor
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Benny Behanan has announced his resignation from the post of UDF convenor. It is hinted that he resigned from the post as per agreement with the Front. Following this, MM Hassan will be appointed as the new UDF convenor.
According to reports, UDF had planned to replace Benny Behanan after he was elected as Lok Sabha MP. Congress 'A' group had decided to bring MM Hassan to this post as he resigned from the KPCC chairman post with the entry of Mullappally Ramachandran. Recommending this, the group had forwarded a letter to KPCC High Command.
But even after this, Benny Behanan, who was appointed by High Command, did not resign from the post and waited for direction from High Command. Hence, his resignation was delayed.
Following this, a dispute broke out between the members in Congress 'A' group and Oommen Chandy directed Benny Behanan to resign, say reports.
Announcing his resignation, Benny Behanan stated that he is disappointed with the news reports on his disagreement with Oommen Chandy.
“I decided to resign to clear the issues. It is not because of Oommen Chandy’s direction,” said Benny Behanan at the press meet.
Meanwhile, Benny Behanan’s dramatic announcement of resignation has left UDF shocked.
The leaders examined that UDF convenor’s resignation will affect the opposition in the background of protests against the LDF government. Amidst this, many CPM leaders mocked UDF convenor’s resignation.
