Thiruvananthapuram: A Bengaluru native drowned in the sea near Varkala beach on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Aroop Dey (33). He visited Varkala to celebrate New Year along with his wife and friends.
They were staying in Miracle Bay resort near Odeyam Beach in Varkala. Aroop met with the accident after he entered the water to bath on Saturday morning with his friends. The accident happened 50 meters away from the beach.
Aroop was rescued by his friends and fishermen of the area. However, he died before he could reach the Varakala Taluk hospital. His friends revealed that Aroop was an asthma patient.
