Bengaluru-Kannur Express extended till Kozhikode; 3 new trains for Malabar

Kozhikode: In a major relief for passengers, three new trains, including Mangalore-Rameshwaram express, were allotted benefitting Kozhikode Railway Station. MK Raghavan MP said that 16512/11, Bengaluru-Mangalore-Kannur Express will be extended up to Kozhikode and 16610 Mangaluru-Kozhikode Express will also hold service till Palakkad.

Meanwhile, the Mangalore-Rameshwaram express is the newly approved train allowed for Kozhikode. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Indian Railway timetable committee in Bengaluru.

Currently, 16528 Kannur- Yesvantpur Junction express is the only passenger train that conducts services from Malabar to the electronic city. The service of Bengaluru-Mangalore-Kannur express getting extended to Kozhikode will benefit passengers from Kozhikode. For years, the passengers were also demanding services from Kozhikode. However, Southern Railway was hesitant to provide the service citing lack of platform facilities. Additionally, the train to Rameshwaram aims to attract and boost pilgrimage.
