Bedridden former Youth Congress leader ties knot with party follower
Cherppu: Shibu George, former Youth Congress district president who has been bedridden for the last 12 years, has now found a life partner from Aluva. Soniya, a former Youth Congress member, and Shibu got married in the presence of the registrar.
Congress leaders Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala conveyed their wishes through phone. Shibu’s colleagues Joseph Taget, John Daniel and Shaji Kodankandath attended the function. Cherppu Panchayat president Sujisha Kalayath, CPM leaders Sebi Joseph Pallissery, M Madhu, P Chandran and BJP leaders P Gopinath, and Vijayan Chendanath became witnesses.
Shibu and Soniya met through an online matrimonial around six months ago. Soniya visited Shibu’s house and expressed her wish to marry him.
Soniya has completed a Cosmetology course in Bengaluru and has worked in the American camp in Iraq for three years. She now works as a cosmetologist here in Kerala. She is daughter of Thankachan and Anna of Chunanganveli house.
Shibu was injured after falling from the third floor of a building on January 30 in 2009. The accident happened right before he was about to leave after attending a state Youth Congress camp in Adoor. He regained his consciousness only after 5 days. Although he was able to sit in wheelchairs after 6 months, he has been in the same state for the past 12 years.
Shibu was an alumnus of Christ College, Irinjalakuda. His friends gifted the rings for the bride and groom.
