Thrissur: Citing laxity in electioneering in Chalakudy constituency during assembly elections, CPM has decided to warn former MLA BD Devassy and district committee member PK Girija Vallabhan and Area Secretary TA Johny.

The move comes day after former PWD minister G Sudhakaran was publicly censured over party’s failure in Ambalappuzha constituency in Alappuzha. Meanwhile, notably, Chalakudy is the only constituency in Thrissur district where a LDF candidate unsuccessfully contested.

Earlier, CPM district committee had observed that there was laxity in electioneering in Chalakudy. It also pinpointed that the laxity was intentional. The district committee had constituted two-member fact-finding commission for evaluate about the failure. CPM’s decision to warn those responsible in failure comes as an outcome of it.

BD Devassy contested from Chalakudy in last three assembly elections. However, during this year’s elections, the candidature was given to LDF’s new party ally Kerala Congress (M). Reportedly, that irked the CPM workers and many were passive in election campaigning.

Also, Kerala Congress(M)’s candidate Dennis Antony came from Congress party after a sudden swapping. That also contributed to laxity in the workers. Dennis failed to UDF’s candidate Sanishkumar Joseph by 1,057 votes. While in 2016, Devassy had a victory of 26,648 votes. All those factors suggest that there was vote loss.
