Basheer’s missing mobile phone sparks controversy; complainants demand detailed probe
Thiruvananthapuram: In the death of journalist Basheer after being mowed down by IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman, Siraj management has dismissed the report filed by the police. Siraj management representative Saifudeen Haji alleged that there is a mystery in missing of KM Basheer’s mobile phone and demanded a detailed probe into the case.
At the same time, police informed the High Court, in a report, that the FIR preparation was interrupted as the complainant had not given the statement on time. But Siraj management dismissed this allegation.
Saifudeen Haji was present at the accident spot from 3.30 am. But police did not record his statement then. Police records also showed that the statement of the complainant was recorded at 7.26 am.
Before the accident, Basheer has conversed with his colleague in the press for 2.5 minutes over the phone. Within minutes after the phone conversation, he was killed in the accident. But when a civil police officer from Museum Police station called to Basheer’s phone at 1.53 am, a man had picked up the call and muttered something after which the phone went switched off and has been the same since then.
“There is a mystery in missing of Basheer’s phone. If the phone is recovered crucial details on his death will be revealed,” said Siraj management.
