Bank attaches Kollam house; locks gates with woman, daughters inside

Following the incident, cashew workers and local residents protested in front of the house. They broke open the lock and freed the woman and children.

Kollam: There is strong protest against a bank here on Wednesday after its officials attached a house by locking the gates of the property while the residents, a woman and her two daughters, were inside.

The incident took place at Pooyappally. The house owner Shine had given the documents of his property, which included the house, to a friend to avail a loan from UCO bank. However, Shine’s fiend failed to repay the loan.

On Wednesday morning, the bank officials came to the house and locked the gates without even checking if any of the residents were inside. Shine’s wife and their two daughters were inside the house at the time. The bank officials then sealed the lock and left the spot without informing them.

Following the incident, cashew workers and local residents protested in front of the house. They broke open the lock and freed the woman and children. Cashew workers are gearing up to state a protest against the bank on Thursday.
