Kozhikode: Congress leader and MP K Muraleedharan backed Shashi Tharoor MP, who is facing repercussions for contesting to the post of Congress president. Earlier, the Youth Congress district committee in Kozhikode unexpectedly backed away from organising an event hosting Shashi Tharoor. However, Tharoor attended the event and received massive support from local party leaders, including MP MK Raghavan.
Following the developments, K Muraleedharan remarked that Tharoor's decision to attend the event helped the party in Malabar and expressed his displeasure over the "unofficial ban" on Tharoor from the state leadership.
"There is a huge conspiracy behind banning Tharoor. Some Chief Minister aspirants in state congress leadership are behind the move. This should not happen. A probe is to be launched to find something that is unidentified. However, we all know what happened here. DCC president informed me about what happened. I won't be blaming the DCC district president for what happened in Kozhikode," he said.
He pointed out that trying to ban Tharoor could only tarnish the image of the party. He also dismissed the need for a party enquiry to find out what happened in Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, Tharoor welcomed MK Raghavan's request for a probe into the incidents.
