Ban on diesel vehicles: Transport Minister seeks time
Kozhikode: The government is not opposing the National Green Tribunal order restricting movement of diesel vehicles in the state, said Transport Minister A K Saseendran.
The minister said the immediate execution of the order would affect the functioning of KSRTC.
“Hence, the government need enough time. In this connection, legal advice has been sought from the AG,” he said.
The National Green Tribunal Circuit Bench in Kochi had recently banned light and heavy diesel vehicles with engines above 2000 cc and over 10 years old in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur cities. Also it wanted temporary ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engines above 2000 cc.
Considering a plea submitted by the vehicle owners, the Kerala High court had stayed the implementation of the order for two months.
