Kochi: Thiruvananthapuram airport gold smuggling case accused Prakash Thampi again responded on Balabhaskar’s death on Wednesday. He was like an elder brother to me, he said. At the time of accident, I stood by him. I see no wrong in it, Prakash Thampi told Mathrubhumi News in Kochi. The response came while he was being taken to be produced in the court.
The court that deals with financial offences remanded Thampi for 14 days.
Thampi is of the stance that there is no mystery in the violinist’s death and it was an accidental death.
At the same time, Crime Branch is deciding to record the confidential statements of the witnesses. This is because of the contradiction in witnesses statements.
Balabhaskar’s wife Lekshmi and another witness Nandu said that driver Arjun was driving the car at the time of accident. But another witness, a KSRTC driver Aji, said the car was driven by Balabhaskar himself.
The connection between the accident and the gold smuggling case, if any exists, will also be probed. Crime Branch will collect information from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The move comes as smuggling case accused Thampi and another accused Vishnu were members of Balabhaskar’s music troupe.
