Puthur: The construction of Bailey bridge across the Kallada river connecting Enathu and Kulakkada is progressing at a brisk pace.
After a special pooja at 5 am on Monday, around 50 personnel belonging to the engineering wing of the Indian Army began the work from the Enathu kadavu. By evening, both the abutments were connected. Once the platforms are attached, the bridge can be opened for vehicular traffic.
Only light motor vehicles will be allowed to enter the bridge. At a time, the movement of vehicles will be allowed in one direction only.
Sources said the bridge is strong enough for the passage of heavy vehicles, including bus, if needed. Further, walkways having a width of two feet will be provided on both sides of the bridge, it is learnt.
Colonel Neeraj Mathur, the commanding officer of 14 Engineering Regiment and Major Anosh Koshy are overseeing the works.
Once the bridge is finished, the construction of KSTP roads will be completed. Already, signal lights have been installed on both sides of the road. For vehicular traffic during night hours, lights will be placed on the bridge too.
PWD minister G Sudhakaran has assured that the works would be completed within April 10 and will be opened for traffic on or before 15th of this month.
