Kochi: CPM leaders accused in the murder of Deepu, a Twenty-20 activist in Kizhakkambalam, was granted bail on Wednesday. Sainudheen, Abdul Rahman, Basheer and Azeez were granted bail on condition that they won't enter the jurisdiction of Kizhakkambalam village during the bail period.

Deepu was beaten up during the lights-off protest organised by Twenty-20 in February to prevent the alleged attempts of Kunnathunadu MLA to sabotage the Street Light Challenge initiated in the panchayats ruled by Twenty20. Deepu died while undergoing treatment following the attack.

Following this, the police filed a charge sheet pointing out that Deepu's political background and his involvement in the light-off protest resulted in the murder.

It was found that Sainudheen, first accused in the case, caught hold of Deepu’s neck and stomped on his head multiple times after he fell down. The other accused in the case also stomped and assaulted him multiple times. Following this, a case was registered against all accused for attempted murder.
