Palakkad: Sports Minister V Abdurahiman on Thursday said Baby Books will be introduced as textbook for sports education for students of classes from 1 to 4. The books will be made available to the students from the beginning of next academic year. The minister said that the syllabus for sports education will include practical knowledge along with the contents from the textbooks.

While speaking to the media at Palakkad Collectorate, the minister said that a survey is going on in every panchayat in the state to identify the right place to build playgrounds as part of promoting sports in the state. In addition, there are plans to start sport council bodies by October 2 in all local bodies. The goal is to identify and nurture talents at the grassroot level, he added.

The minister also assured that stadiums with international standards will be set up at Kozhikode and Palakkad and a budget of Rs 50 crore and Rs 40 crore has been allotted for both districts respectively.

“Two sports regional centres will be set up at Kozhikode and Thrissur. About 58 stadiums are under construction across the state. An agreement has been reached with the All India Federation to hold the Santosh Trophy in Kerala in two years. Junior, sub-junior and senior competitions will be held in Kerala itself. The aim is to prepare suitable stadiums for it,” he added.
