Thiruvananthapuram: BJP state spokesperson Adv B Gopalakrishnan’s controversial statement against director Adoor Gopalakrishnan on Facebook disturbed the party members also. It is reported that majority of the BJP leaders condemned Gopalakrishnan’s statement and noted that such a statement should not be made against a respectable person like Adoor.
The BJP leader raised a sharp criticism against the director after he has written an open letter to the Prime Minister over mob lynchings in India. He asked Adoor to shift to moon if he didn’t want to hear Jail Shri Ram chants.
Following this controversial statement, the party members questioned Adv B Gopalakrishnan for making such a criticism against a noted personality when bypolls are around the corner.
Adoor never creates any controversy or makes unnecessary response. He has won almost all film awards in the state. Such a move against a world renowned personality was not needed, observed a group of BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, none of the members have taken an open stand against Adv B Gopalakrishnan.
At the same time, the state leaders noted that party has no involvement in Facebook posts made by its members. But being the party spokesperson, Gopalarishnan’s statement is regarded as the party’s stand.
Gopalakrishnan’s controversial comment has given a better opportunity for CPM to criticise BJP. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan discussed the issue at the state film awards ceremony on Saturday.
A group of members in BJP demanded to seek an explanation from B Gopalakrishnan in the next state committee meet. However, it is reported that he is seeking support of the leaders after he landed up in the controversy.
