Thiruvananthapuram: Hours before the now-transferred KSEB chairman B Ashok received his order to relieve duty, he passed a fresh order to restrict the union activities in the Board.
He reduced the state-wide protection for the union members to their respective districts to block the return of the leaders he transferred to Thiruvananthapuram. The act of vengeance came hours before the media reported his transfer which is believed to be due to the clash with the KSEB Officers Association.
A difference of opinion with the association had led to a series of controversial actions in the Board in the past few months, often causing headaches to the government. The officers started protests after one of its leaders was suspended by Ashok. Though she was reinstated by the court later, Ashok transferred her. He also took action against other union leaders for protesting against the decisions.
The union leaders had levelled several allegations against the chairman. CPM intervened to resolve the matter and a temporary ‘ceasefire’ was agreed by both parties.
B Ashok has been transferred to the Department of Agriculture as its secretary. Rajan Khobragade will take charge as the new chairman at KSEB.
