Thalassery bypass likely to be opened in March 2023

Onchiyam: The construction works of the much awaited Azhiyur- Muzhappilangad bypass, which aims to ease traffic snarls in Mahe and Thalassery towns, will be completed by March 2023.

Reportedly, the construction activities of Mahe railway overbridge and Thalassery Balath overbridge are yet to be completed. It is to be carried out by the engineering department of the railways.

Meanwhile, the tarring works of 17 km road, out of the total 18.6 km long path, have been finished. Service roads have also been built in necessary locations. In addition, special toll booths will be set up for the bypass.

The Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) are working to open the bypass by March next year.

The construction of the Rs 1,300 crore project has been taken up by EKK Infrastructure Ltd, a private company centred in Perumbavoor.

The project was inaugurated in October 2017.
