Accolades for local bodies: TVM emerges best as district panchayat, Kozhikode tops in corporations

Thiruvananthapuram: Swaraj Trophy and Mahatma awards were conferred to the best local self-government bodies of the state. While Thiruvananthapuram was selected as the best district panchayat of Kerala, Kollam achieved the second position. Kozhikode emerged first among corporations.

Minister MV Govindan declared the awards for local bodies considering their performances in 2020-21.

Mulanthuruthy of Ernakulam district will receive the award for best grama panchayat. Elavally in Thrissur and Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram came in second and third positions respectively in the category of grama panchayats. Meanwhile, the Pathanamthitta district made remarkable achievements in the list of Mahatma awards.

Along with a trophy, Rs 25 lakh is awarded as first prize of Swaraj trophy in the state level and Rs 15 lakh for the second and Rs 10 lakh for the third prize winners. No cash prize will be given for the Mahatma awards. A reward of Rs 10 lakh will be given for first prize in district level Swaraj trophy and Rs 5 lakh as second prize.
