Police said that Ayurvedic doctor Mayoornathan confessed to the crime. Police say Mayoornathan told them that the murder was planned due to enmity with his father. He has stated that he only tried to kill his father and did not intend to harm anyone else.

Saseendran died on Sunday after vomiting blood. He left home after eating idli, sambar and chickpea curry for breakfast. Saseendran’s wife Geeta, mother Kamalakshi, workers on their coconut grove Chandran and Sreeramachandran who had eaten from their house were also admitted to the hospital. With this, the incident was suspected to be food poisoning. But doctors dismissed this possibility. After that, the investigation focused on Mayoornathan.

He was the only one who didn't eat breakfast from home on that day. He initially stated that he did not eat because his stomach was sick. Meanwhile, after Saseendran’s death, the doctor insisted on no post-mortem. This also raised suspicions. He was taken into police custody and questioned after the funeral.

Mayoornathan is Saseendran’s son from his first wife. He lost his mother to suicide 15 years ago. Saseendran married Geeta after this. According to the police, Mayoornathan had a grudge against his father and stepmother.

Mayoornathan, who excelled in studies, got a MBBS seat, but preferred BAMS. He then completed his studies and became an Ayurvedic doctor. Along with this, he set up his own lab on the upper floor of the house. It is reported that medicines were also manufactured here.

According to police, Mayoornathan told them that the poison used to kill his father was also made in his own lab. The ingredients for this were ordered online. Poison made in the house was then mixed with chickpea curry.
