Pathanamthitta: The postmortem report of Mathayi, a farm owner in Kudappana who was found dead in a well after forest department officials took him into custody, cited the cause of death as drowning.
According to the report, there were no bruise marks on his body indicating torture. Also, the left side of the head had contusions. Fracture on hand could have resulted from falling into the well.
The postmortem was completed on Friday afternoon at the medical college hospital. The internal organs were sent for forensic examination. More details can be obtained only after getting these results.
Earlier, his family had alleged that his death was a murder.
Mathayi (41), was taken into custody for interrogation by forest officers from his residence in Areekkakavu on Tuesday evening at 4 pm. However, there was no case registered against Mathayi by forest department. After 2 hours, Mathayi’s body was found inside the well of his family residence, which is 7 km away.
Mathayi was interrogated alleging that he destroyed the camera that was set up in Kudappana to identify the presence of wild animals and that he dumped farm waste in the forest.
